Mentorship Opportunities

We invite dedicated professionals to mentor the next generation of behavioral health researchers through our internship program.

For Researchers Interested in Mentoring

Are you passionate about shaping the next generation of behavioral health and social science researchers? As a mentor in our internship program, you’ll have the opportunity to guide aspiring students and share your expertise to inspire the future of our field. Join us in making a meaningful impact by volunteering as a mentor—your knowledge and experience can ignite curiosity and innovation in the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.

About IBHRI’s Education and Training Program

Our program allows students to work closely with a mentor to develop a better understanding of the scientific process. As a mentor, you will play a vital role in guiding interns as they navigate their scholarly pursuits, providing invaluable insights and support. IBHRI oversees the administration of the internship program and provides an assigned internship coordinator so that mentors can focus on mentoring! Mentors are asked to offer a research project that can be conducted and mentored remotely. When possible, mentors can host an intern visit at their research site.

IBHRI mentors will:

  • Develop a research project that can be conducted and mentored remotely.

  • Participate in the mentee/mentor matching process to ensure compatibility and successful research experience. The Education & Training Program Coordinator will contact mentors about student applications, forward applications for review, and help coordinate a meeting during the intern/fellow interview process.

  • Meet with a student intern or fellow at least once weekly to review activity, provide guidance, and discuss milestones. The length of the mentorship will be based on the program (internship or fellowship) and based on project needs as determined by the mentor before the start of the education & training program.

  • Complete a mentee and program evaluation survey.

To become a mentor, complete the form below. Completing the application does not obligate researchers to participate in the program or accept a student. If a project is selected, IBHRI will reach out to the researcher to confirm participation and to initiate the matching process.
